Resources for David Bouchard

Website:

Background information:

David Bouchard is British Columbia's best-selling author and most sought-after public speaker. Bouchard champions literacy (The Gift of Reading, For the Love of Reading) and has produced a string of award winning books. He's won the Governor General's Literacy Award (The Song within my Heart, 2004) and been short listed for the same award on other occasions (The Great Race, 1997; The Dragon New Year, 1998). McLean's listed If You're not from the Prairies on its list of Top 20 Children's Books in the history of Canada and Southam News listed three of Bouchard's titles on its list of 25 Canadian Children's Classics—If You're not from the Prairies, Qu'Appelle, The Song within my Heart. One of the exciting things about David Bouchard is that he comes from a Métis background and this is reflected in many of his books (The Elders are Watching, I am Raven, Qu'Appelle, The Drum Calls Softly, Nokum is my Teacher, The Meaning of Respect, The Journal of Etienne Mercier, An Aboriginal Carol). These books are illustrated by the best of Canada's First Nations' artists—Allen Sapp, Roy Henry Vickers, Andy Everson, Michael Lonechild, Moses Beaver, etc.).

Interviews:

Video of interview with David Bouchard in which he discusses his aboriginal background and the influence it has had on his life. In the interview he mentions his best selling book, If You're not from the Prairie.

You may wish to follow the interview by watching a video presentation that puts that book to music and photographs and then follow that viewing with a reading/discussion of some of his other titles.
