Welcome to Springvalley Middle Career/Life Programs

SMS students will be involved in Career/Life Exploration Activities which contribute to Health & Career Education curriculum in Grades 7 to 9.  Career Exploration Activities include Career/Life Snapshot presentations, grade based Career Day workshops, Career/Life Program assembly keynote speakers, the Okanagan College Career Fair, and SD23 arranged Career Focus Conferences.  Grade 8 students will also participate in the BC Junior Achievement Dollars With Sense program and the spring district Stepping Up to the Trades Conference.  Grade 9 students will also participate in the national Take Our Kids To Work Day and the BC Junior Achievement program The Economics of Staying in School.  Students 14 years and older, when WorkSafe BC coverage is available, can participate in Project Placements and Job Shadowing at SD23 accredited and supervised job sites.

GRADE 9 “TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK” DAY 2007.  Consent forms will be delivered to our Grade 9 students in October for their participation in this national Canada Career Week event, Wednesday, November 7th.  This is an important way of bringing the whole community - students, parents, schools, and employers - together to help our children get a look at the working world at an important time of their lives.  Time spent participating in this important activity, along with the preparation and post reflection assignment, will contribute to students’ District 23 Middle School Career/Life Exploration Activity and their Health & Career Education 9 final mark.  SMS Grade 9s will attend a youth work site safety awareness presentation by WorkSafe BC, in preparation for Take Our Kids To Work Day.  This day has been one of the highlights of Grade 9 for many students and their parents.  Visit www.takeourkidstowork.ca for more information.
